Story Notes: The Star Wars series was one of the final comics released by Dark Horse Comics. The story is heavily based on the original draft of Star Wars by George Lucas. This alternate telling of Star Wars depicts many of the original ideas for the characters according to their concept art.
This issue is the black and white exclusive NYCC Variant. It was only available to attendees of New York Comic Con in 2013.
After the original Marvel Star Wars series ended with issue #107 in 1986, the Star Wars fell into obscurity. In the early 1990’s Dark Horse Comics licensed the rights from Lucasfilm to publish new material based on the Star Wars universe. This relationship lead to a resurgence in interest in Star Wars leading to new toys and eventually the re-release of the Original Trilogy. Darkhorse held the rights to publish Star Wars Comics until 2014 when the franchise was bought by Disney. Disney canceled the Dark Horse relationship and returned the publishing rights to Marvel, a Disney company.
