About: Batman # 497 was first published in both “Collector’s Edition” (with Black half-jacket cover) and in a much limited release as a “Newsstand Edition” (without the black jacket). The “Newsstand Edition” is distinguished with the date “July 13, 1993” in the UPC box.
Story Notes: This is the 11th part of the 19 part Knightfall storyline, which saw Batman crippled by the villain Bane and replaced by the anti-hero, Azrael. This issue is the climax of the story where a tired run, down Bruce Wayne fights Bane in the Batcave and has his spine shattered beyond repair.

This includes a Joe Simon & Jack Kirby Sandman adventure from the 1940’s as well as a Neal Adams Batman story from the 70’s. Also included are early Superman and Wonder Woman stories.
Famous 1st Edition (known as Treasury Editions) was a series of large scale tabloid reproductions of classic DC comics. These were produced by DC starting in 1972. The reproductions include all original artwork and advertising exactly as it appeared in the 1940’s but scaled to larger format.
