New York Comic Con NYCC 2019 Round Up

This past October New York Comic Con stormed Manhattan with 4 days of Comics, Pop Culture, Movie and Video awesomeness!! New York Comic Con 2019 took place on October 3-6 at the Jacob Javits Center. The annual convention is the largest on the east coast and attracts thousands of visitors. NYCC debuts the latest in geek life from the entertainment industry. Everything from Funko Pop, Japanese imports, TV shows & movies and of course, COMICS!!!
Here’s 5 fun things from this year’s NYCC2019
5) Costumes
Have a flair for the theatric? Cosplay (Playing around in Costumes) is always huge at New York Comic Con. Some of the best included a dead on accurate Adam West Batman complete with Bomb, Beetleguice, Mysterio with illusion effects and more! Many of these costumes are home-made, making for some fun and creative designs.

4) Original Art
Some of the often understated gems at New York Comic Con can be found in the dealer area of the show floor. Here you can discover Rare Golden Age Comics as well as Original Artwork. Heritage Auctions is always a great booth to explore. This year they had the iconic original artwork to Neal Adams’s famouns Joker cover for Batman # 251. Heritage also was promoting auctions for the original unpublished pitch for Frank Miller’s Batman: The Dark Knight Returns as well as a page of Alan Moore’s Batman: The Killing Joke. On the Marvel side of things, Heritage had an unprecedented copy of Marvel Comics # 1 (1939). Elsewhere on the floor was an amazing amassment of Jack Kirby original artwork including a page from Avengers # 11 featuring an early Spider-Man appearance.

3) Action Figure Debuts
Tons and Tons of Action Figures and toys! Hasbro had a huge reveal with the finished sculpt for their mega Transformer, Unicron. It is the largest Transformer action figure ever made at over 30″. The figure is only available as a pre-order through their collector initiative called, Haslab. Diamond Distributer had life size mock ups of Kenner’s original Star Wars including Darth Vader and R2D2. Mezco had a ton of new 6″ Marvel and DC figures complete with real fabric costumes as well as new 4″ figure line for both Batman ’66 and Max Fleischer’s Superman!

2) Meeting Creators and Actors
From Movie Stars to Comic Artist Super-Stars, everyone came out for New York Comic Con. DC hosted signings for Frank Miller, Jim Lee, Greg Capullo while Image had a major celebration for Todd McFarlane’s Spawn # 300. McFarlane signed for fans all four days of the convention. McFarlane even brought along his wife Wanda Kolomyjec (the original editor on Spawn) as well as legendary letter Tom Orzechowski. Artist Alley featured artists like Rob Liefeld, Marc Silvestri, Chris Claremont, Scott Snyder, Adam & Andy Kubert and many more. DC also hosted two separate signings for Birds Of Prey w/ Harley Quinn actress Margot Robbie and CW’s Batwoman TV series with actresses Meagan Tandy and Rachel Skarsten.

1) Exclusives
There are always tons of exclusives at New York Comic Con! From Comics to Funko Pop to Pins and Prints, almost every booth has something equally cool and unique. DC had several exclusives including a large size Todd McFarlane Batman poster based on the recent DC Collectible sculpture. They also had an exclusive Acetate Edition Batman/ Superman that was only available at the panel. Valiant Entertainment had Gold Cover variants of their premiere issues for Livewire and the relaunch of Bloodshot (with a movie due out later this year).
