Artist Spotlight
Artist Spotlight: V. Ken Marion
By Joshua H. Stulman
Ken Marion is DC Comic’s fastest rising artist. If you have been reading Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps then you know exactly why! Marion’s artwork embodies the best elements of Michael Turner and Jim Lee with stunning detail and exciting story-telling. Marion is known for beautiful portraits of women and his tightly penciled pages.
Marion entered comics directly after graduating from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. He began on several smaller publications like Logan’s Run: Rebirth and the Misadventures of Adam West. With an eye for fast paced adventure, Marion penciled the series Extermination (Boom! Studios) and from there he was chosen as the new artist for Fathom: The Elite mini-series (Aspen Comics). Working in a style similar to Aspen founder, Michael Turner, Marion was a natural fit for the All-New Soulfire series released in 2014.
With rave reviews and success at Aspen, Marion premiered DC Comics’ revival of the 90’s property, Bloodlines. Bloodlines was a six issue mini-series released in 2016. Along with Aspen writer, J.T. Krul, Marion re-envisioned the concept as a teen horror/sci-fi story featuring a cast whose metagene is activated when bitten by an alien parasite. The aliens have invaded a small town killing its inhabitants. In the midst of their new-found powers, Loose Cannon, Sparx, Gunfire, and Razorsharp are brought together to save their hometown from this new evil.
After the Bloodlines series concluded, Marion was tapped as the interior artist for DC’s Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps. He debuted in issue # 13 with a preview of some of the past and future story arcs planned for the series. He created the visual look of the new light bending Green Lantern villains, The Prism.
Ken Marion’s continues as the artist for Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corp for the 3 part series entitled “Prism of Time” featuring Rip Hunter’s return to the DC Universe and the first story arc to showcase Green Lantern’s newest threat, the Prism.
