Story Notes: This issue features a solo Wolverine story by Barry Windsor-Smith. The story examines Wolverine’s struggle for humanity against his animal instincts. His morality is pitted against Lady Deathstrike, who has replaced her body with cybernetic enhancements in order to seek revenge on Wolverine.
Lady Deathstrike is joined by three former Hellfire gaurds, Cole, Reese and Macon, which were brutally defeated by Wolverine in Uncanny X-Men # 133. Together they form the evil cyborg group called the Reavers.
This issue is penciled, inked, and colored by Barry Windsor-Smith and shows off the artist’s dramatic change in technique. His strong sense of figurative anatomy is joined by a developed sense of color which departs from traditional comic book coloring. His preference for less vibrant and more tonal colors is typical of his artwork from this era and is showed off in greater detail during his pivitol Weapon X storyline in Marvel Comics Presents # 72-84.
